Youth baseball and softball tournaments live or die on field management. Here's the playbook that tournament directors use to keep 60 games on 6 fields running on time.
Field rotation
Short games on small fields, long games on big fields. The scheduler should respect field types and age divisions (U8 coach pitch doesn't belong on a 90-ft diamond).
Pitch counts
Most leagues enforce pitch count rules. Track pitches at the captain-entry level so a kid doesn't pitch Saturday and Sunday finals.
Weather
Lightning delays are guaranteed. A weather hold button pauses the schedule, notifies all teams by SMS, and resumes with an adjusted timeline when it's safe.
Brackets
Pool play into double elim is the most common format. Top 8 advance, lower finishers play in a silver bracket so every team plays at least 4 games.
